I bought this game because I sometimes get bored of the typical racing games that all seem to have the exact same tracks and cars. It is fun to be able to own your own house(s) and car(s) and be able to go anywhere on the island with your automobiles. Along with races, there are also missions, such as delivery missions, where you have to deliver someone else's car to a repair shop or rental agency for cash (you don't get as much money if you crash the car en route), and there are also missions where you help people with their bags by driving them under a time limit.

Again, this is not the typical racing game; if you are looking for a good Xbox 360 pure racing game with very realistic car dynamics and the like, look at Forza Motorsport 3. However, if you are looking for an addictive video game that is not what you're used to, Test Drive Unlimited is perfect for you.

Need for Speed: Undercover Review

This game was a very fun racing game. I paid around 20 dollars for it and it was well worth that. I have played other racing games before such as Nascar games and Forza 2 and they pretty much stop at car upgrades and racing. This game had that as well as many other aspects. It had the following missions: cop takeout, cost of state (try to damage things as much as possible), checkpoint, circuit, sprint, outrun, evade, as well as many side missions like delivering a car, and taking out gang members. The story was a little bit weak, but was still ok. The game was very addicting and provided hours of gameplay. I would recommend this game for those who liked NFS Most Wanted as it is very similar to that one.

Madagascar Kartz Review

I bought this for my 5yr old who loves to play Mario Kart and loves the Penguins of Madagascar. There are quite a few races that you can do although the single player mode has a few more to play than the multiplayer mode does. There is a championship mode where you get to unlock extra players and tracks. Its a fun paced game almost like Mario Kart in which you get power ups and use them against the other players but I have to admit that it's not as good. Initally you start off as the original Madagascar crew and you get to unlock, B.O.B, Shrek along the way. The only complaint came from my 9yr old son who enjoys getting his achievements is that in multiplayer mode only the first person logged in gets the achievements. So you'd have to play it again under your profile if the multiplayer achievements are what you're looking for. Another disappointment is that it's not online multiplayer. With a game like this, especially for the xbox 360 you would think that they would have included this. It's one of the reasons why we love Viva Pinata Party Animals.

Forza Motorsport 2 Review

HeadLine Fact:
90-95% of the population does not know what is good and what is bad, indeed fitting us into the saying "pearl to a swine". Most of us are content with stuff that is unoriginal, people don't see the higher possibility, but only see what's in front of them. That is why the world is blind and that is why creativity has died. The proof is in the constant remakes and reuse of old movies, games, etc. We continuously fall into that hole of mediocreness. Be different, demand better! This is a message brought to you by me, nonrelated to this game.

GAME REVIEW

I've been playing this game for about a week or so. I have played Gran Turismo 2 and 3 before and started Forza for the first time. This is an opinionated review about how I feel about this game.

This game is well made, the graphics is nice and all, however my experience with this game has not been very pleasant. It's not that there's anything wrong with the disc or my system. I was expecting to enjoy this game a lot, however, I found it to be one of the most unpleasant, stressful, anger inducing game ever. I like racing simulation games, but either this game is too real or not real enough, I have found the gameplay to be ridiculously frustrating.

I'll elaborate and also add some flaws:

1. Saving. This thing has autosave, once you buy a car or buy certain upgrades, you're stuck with it if you let the autosave kick in. You cannot buy a car and upgrade it and test it out and see if it's good first and if it's not reset your game and try another car. Once you buy the car, you're stuck with it and the consequences of buying it.

2. Tuning is just crazy in this game, but I've seen it in GT and such, but you have to be quite knowledgable in tuning to get it right. A lot of time is wasted, imo, in just sitting around and tuning it. Tuning is hard because sometimes you can't tell the difference or it's simply because you're driving bad in one race and good the next. I find it hard, it's probably just me.

3. I spent 3 hours or so trying to beat the first track, partially because I didn't know about the tuning option because I was new at the time. However, after tuning I would expect that turning would be a lot easier. However, this was not the case. If a fully upgraded car has problems turning a U or L shaped turn at 50-70 mph, then you got issues. I find myself continuously spinning out of control, tuning doesn't seem to do too much. I suppose this is a personal thing hence this is a personal review. It just might happen to you too. Also, you got to watch out for ur opponents accidently nugging you. One nug means losing control, smashing into the wall, and ruining your race. Resetting is a continuously option you must choose if you play this game.

4. Again with the autosaving issue. Many of the races require a specific class of car, a specific weight requirement, model type, HP limit, etc. That requires you to buy cars and upgrades. However, cars can be expensive and the upgrades maybe even more. I fully upgrade one of my cars (sometimes u should and sometimes you shouldn't fully upgrade base on race requirements) and it costs me about 30-40K give or take. Now, autosave is the issue because you can't actually buy a car, test it out in the race you want, and choose whether to keep it or not. Once you buy a car, you are stuck with it even if you hate it. You can't change your mind. Autosave just makes the game worse, I dislike it very much.

5. You can't sell the cars that you won. So far from what I see it's cars that you win in a tourney or when you reach a certain level (every 5 lvls u get a car). Your max resell is 100cr, which is worthless. So winning cars many times won't help you unless maybe if you plan to use them.

6. Funky physics. What do I mean? When you hit the side wall in a parallel direction, physics would probably have it that the car just slides against the wall instead of bouncing me perpendicular off it. I'm talking about the non-cement type walls. It's like I'm hitting a spring and even springs shouldn't do that. It's like you rub your hand against your table and instead of it going across the table surface, your hand gets bounced upwards away from the table.......

In conclusion
This game is either a love it or really really hate it kind of game. If you know exactly how to tune then you can get the most out of ur drive or else you'll end up like me. There are many people that have succeed without knowing much about tuning, but it is frustrating imo.

I have progressed so little in this game, I have played it and now I no longer want to touch it for at least a few more months. Whether you find this review useful or not is up to you. It doesn't matter to me, it's just my opinion. I also got this game for [...] total.

Project Gotham Racing 4 Review

I don't know what Bizarre Creations is gonna be doing from now on.
but i still think their PGR series that started back in the Dreamcast days with Metropolis Street Racer
is probably ending with this title and they did it right. This version of the game reminds you of the first PGR for the original Xbox
in its fluidity and pick-up&play style. the graphics are amazing for Xbox 360 standards. only thing I'm kinda missing is the music selection.
this game used to be known for its great music stations that you had while driving.
but all in all, it's a great half-sim/half-arcade racer that takes you around the world and does it all amazingly well.
if you like driving games, you ought yourself to try this one! won't be dissapointed.

Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights Review

Okay, I just picked this up a couple of weeks ago for a remarkably cheap price (it's been out for awhile) and I had pretty meager expectations going in since it came and went without much hoopla. The case wasn't helped with the dumb "Hot Import Nights" subtitle which really brought thoughts of mediocrity to my head.

However, this game is amazing fun! While limited in scope and a tad repetitive, I never got bored with it. The cars handle well and you actually have to use different cars for different events, unlike most other arcade racers where a supercar will dominate all courses without much effort.

It took me about 40 hours to complete the game to 100% completion.

There is *NO* storyline to the game. No cheesy cutscenes a la Need For Speed or Midnight Club. No bosses or bad guys. Nothing. The people you race in the rookie league are the same people you're racing in the elite league. The game is focused solely on racing and drifting.

What I like:
1) The courses are well designed and easy to drive. I didn't find a single "invisible wall" which is prevalent in many racing games, where you hit some unseen obstacle on the side of the track and go bouncing off-course.

2) The difficulty level is perfect, for me at least. Most races can be beaten within 1-5 tries so you're not banging your head for hours trying to get past something.

3) Great selection of cars, from regular Japanese tuner cars to classic muscle cars to boutique supercars like the Zonda F and the Koenigsegg CCX.. even an Ascari!

4) Soundtrack is good, if you like electronic/dub.

5) Sense of speed is great, graphics are about on par with other 360 racers.

6) Drift courses are a hell of a lot of fun. Some of the drift totals seem impossible when you first get started (like 4M points in a single drift for example) but once you get into the groove you can knock it out and feel in the zone.

What I don't like:
1) There's no conclusion to the game. I'm serious. You beat the elite level and a screen says "congratulations you are now elite" and puts you back into the regular race selection screen. That's it. No credits rolling, nothing new unlocked, no new cars, nada. Just an achievement.

2) The game LOCKS UP on a somewhat often basis. In one of the drift events if I go over a 5M single drift it will hard lock, ie, I have to actually power down the 360 to get out of it. This is a pretty serious problem and there's no expectation that it will be fixed since I believe the Juice team is out of work these days. This doesn't impact the actual completion of the game but it does keep you from accomplishing some achievements, like the 20M and 50M drifts, which are probably beyond my skill level anyways. But there's a certain anger that's felt when you get a 12M point drift and it locks up before the autosave kicks in.

All in I'd give it a 7/10 and recommend it to anyone who's played all the other big name racers and is looking for something simple.

Forza Motorsport 3 Review

An excellant racing simulator, the driving physics are spot on.
The graphics are first-rate and would look even better if I had an HDTV.
It still looks superb on my CRT.
I also purchased the Prima guide for this game and it really helps with tuning and painting.
I have painted several cars and was really pleased with the results.
The colors are rich and varied, but I was a little disappointed with the variety of the car decals provided.
I still haven't figured out how to take graphics from one side of a car to the other.
But despite my ignorance, I have 3 or 4 great-looking cars.
There is also a rich variety of cars available.
I have driven the Mustang racecar on a test drive and was impressed with the sounds from the car.
I have a 5.1 sound system that my Xbox is hooked up to and the positional sound is superb.
I really enjoy this game and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of motorsports.

Indianapolis 500 Evolution Review

Indianapolis 500 Evolution, published by Destineer, and developed by acclaimed racing developer Brain in a Jar, is a game that covers Indycar racing from 1961-1971. I am sure that some people will dismiss this game based on its budget pricing and lack of cutting-edge graphics. However, this game is a tremendous accomplishment in terms of bringing an exciting era of Indycar racing to the Xbox 360.

First off, this game is not for people who only want a simplistic arcade-style experience. The handling here is realistic and requires a steady hand and knowledge of how to draft and race in close quarters. There are three difficulty levels. Even on the medium level it is not easy to simply go out and qualify first every race and then win. The hardest difficulty level is very tough, as any mistakes will result in a loss. That is the way Indycar racing should be, though.

Users can do a quick race from any of the eleven years between 1961-1971, using one of the actual drivers, in their actual car. There are a ton of drivers included. Andretti, Dallenbach, Brabham, Ward, Foyt, and Unser are but a few of the racing greats in this game. There is also a career mode that covers all eleven seasons. Credits are earned throughout the career to upgrade equipment. There is even the ability to mix and match chassis, gearboxes, and engines from different years. Each season includes the Indy 500 race, with the correct unique qualifying process of the Indy 500 (Bump Day included). Season scoring is tracked to determine the champ each season. One other cool thing about career mode is each opponent develops a respect rating for the user. The CPU cars will give you more room if you race clean and do not make them mad, however they will be very aggressive when you are near them if you race dirty against them. The length of races can be adjusted in either quick race or career mode. The shortest race setting is ten laps, with the longest race setting being the number of laps of a real race. At the shortest setting there will be no need to make pit stops, however the longer race settings call for pit stops to be made. There is a complete tire degradation model at work for each tire, a full damage model, and correct modeling of fuel load impacting car performance.

The other mode of play worth mentioning is the mission mode. This mode offers various challenges each year based on real-world scenarios of Indycar racing. Credits are awarded to the user for beating each mission. These credits can be used in the career mode. Also, in mission mode there are movies and photographs that can be viewed. This multimedia angle is really neat because it allows gamers to see actual narrated footage from each year between 1961-1971. People interested in the history of Indycar racing will delight in watching the movies and looking at the photos of past Indy 500s.

Graphically, Evolution is not going to knock anyone's socks off. The graphics serve their purpose and run smoothly. There are a ton of cars to choose from, and users can upgrade the chassis, gearbox, and engine over the course of the career. The actual cars from each of the eleven years are represented in the game. The cars look good. The tracks in the game are based on the real tracks from this era of racing. Obviously the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the main attraction. It is faithfully recreated from that time period, and even changes appearance as the years move on. Other tracks include the Milwaukee Mile, Langhorne, Trenton, Hanford, and Riverside. They all have the unique characteristics that made them famous.

Overall, I am rating this game based on fun factor, racing experience, and accuracy in representing the period of racing on which it focuses. I should mention that I take racing games very seriously, so I am fairly critical when it comes to games of this genre. Indianapolis 500 Evolution will not appeal to everyone due to its somewhat realistic physics model and difficulty level, its lack of flashy graphics, and its focus on such a narrow segment of auto racing history. However, it is a great success for what it gets right -- exciting wheel-to-wheel racing in one of the most compelling eras of Indycar racing. I would gladly pay the typical 59.99 for this game, so it is a steal at half that price.

Moto GP 06 Review

You don't have to be a motorcycle enthusiest to pick this game up and have fun. In fact, you pretty much just need to know that motorcycles have 2 wheels and can drive really, really fast. A lot of people have been complaining that this game is too tough, but I haven't figured out why. I don't have any difficulty keeping the bike on course (only took me one full lap at race speed to figure each track out) and the AI is generally slow even on champion level. I haven't unlocked legend yet, but I'm hoping it gives me some competition considering I won each and every race I've run so far.

Although, for the casual gamer the experience may be frustrating. If you've never played a racing sim before you may have some difficulty training your brain to tell your fingers to slow the bike down way before you want to in order to make corners correctly.

The tracks look amazing, the crowds are lifelike, and the graphics are just stunning. The music sucks though so I reccomend turning on your dashboard's playlist.

As much as I love this game, I only gave it 4 stars because of the fact that my copy seems to crash my 360 quite a bit. I've emailed THQ and they haven't given me any kind of good advice yet. However, I won't let that stop me from playing the game because overall it's the best out on the 360 so far.

if you're looking for a solid arcade racing game, Burnout is your best bet. No adjusting weight, no engine micro-management, or adjusting gear ratios here. Nope, just pure speed and wreck induced adrenaline.

Graphics-wise Burnout Paradise is beautiful, the cars look magnificent and the sun-washed vistas and city streets look spectacular. The high speed effects are really engrossing; I've had to back off the throttle a few times because I felt I couldn't handle how fast buildings were zipping past. The wrecks are pretty intense, with bits and parts flying in every direction, and the car models really reflect the amount of punishment that is inflicted upon them.

On the audio front, this game is great. Nothing beats unlocking a new car and laying rubber to the nearest junkyard(where cars can be swapped out) to jump in and just to crank the engine over and listen to the sinister growl of a muscle car, or the nice, tight rev of an import tuner. The crash sound effects are amazing, with screeching steel on steel, thumps, pops, and shattering glass.

- It should be noted that the in game music without a doubt ROCKS.

Game modes are pretty varied, so if you find yourself getting bored with say, just racing, there are plenty more options to choose from. My favorite mode is the crash mode, where you control your car in slow motion steering it through intersections, oncoming traffic and the like trying to rack up as much collateral damage as possible.

With the downloadable content now out on PS3 and Xbox 360 (both free of charge) you can scream all over Paradise city on bikes!

The selection of vehicles is immense, and many gamers will have their hands full unlocking them all. Car customization is basic ranging from a surprising amount of styles, colors, and finishes.

I haven't played Burnout online yet but from what I see the options for multiplayer are pretty modest, with leaderboards, best times, best wrecks all available real-time.

How can I begin explaining the experience I've had with this game? Well for starters, I've played and enjoyed 1980's Pole Position, 1990's Rage Racer and Gran turismo, 2000's GT3 & 4, Burnout Revenge and finally Forza Motorsport 2. Grid got the best of them all put into one smooth gorgeous looking game(almost movie like realism with the crash animation, cars and environments). The sound design is also excellent. The sense of speed in this game just blows my mind away. Imagine going in the narrow streets of Milan, Italy at 180 mph! What a rush!!

Some people say this game is not a true simulation because of the inaccurate physics , but then my answer is that your competing AI drivers in Grid are trying to win unlike GT's ones. They spin out, fly up in the air sometimes--it's funny to see a driver that just passed you do that--and crash. In the Gran Turismo and Forza franchises, at least in the beginning of the career mode, the other drivers behave like wagons in a train and also the game doesn't have crash physics. Additionally, nobody communicates/talks to you any time in the game. Granted in Grid your pit manager becomes a bit repetitious but at least someone is talking to you unlike games that people consider simulation of the racing world. Another thing gamers complain about is how difficult Grid is and I must partially agree. Personally, I had to set the difficulty to the lowest setting to be able to win most of the races (I'm not that good at games). How does that compare to GT's hardness? Well I remember trying the International A licence in GT4, and it was plain ridiculous. You had to race against time for 10:00 minutes in a narrow winding road without ever leaving the pavement. What the crap! One last point, purist argue that in Grid one cannot customize the limited amount of cars. But when I played Gran Turismo 4 or Forza 2 what I really wanted was to get hold of the best cars. Also, customization is a double edge sword: Sometimes it helps you win the race and sometimes it doesn't. Grid dispenses with the ordinary vehicles and supplies the drivers with the hottest wheels on the road.

Grid is a very hot looking piece of software simulation or arcade if you will, and a lot of fun!

Full Auto Review

Full Auto is a destructive racing game. Your muscle car is well equipped with machine guns - the question is if you can survive the race, not win it! I enjoy the destructability of the world, as well as the rewind button.

I have to say first that every time I go to play this game I laugh my fool head off for the first ten minutes or so. I play a lot of video games (as you might imagine) and many of them have a driving aspect. A key skill I've honed over time is how to drive quickly, instinctively, while avoiding crashes. It is REALLY hard for me to switch to this game where you're often trying to ram head-on into your opponent. I will be racing down the road and literally keep missing the cars I'm trying to hit, because my hands automatically dodge left and right!

Once you get the hang of the smashing, the game is a lot of fun. It's really easy, too. I never have to look at the manual - it's just a matter of grabbing a car, choosing a weapons configuration, hopping into a map and smashing away. It's a great stress relief. You have arcade mode which are one-off maps as well as career mode to build up your skills and vehicles over time. They have a lot of vehicle choices, color choices, and interesting maps. There's a lot to enjoy here if you like smashing things with cars.

They did a good job with the environment. You can smash into other cars of course, but you can also run down cafe tables, take down light poles and telephone poles, even smash your way through buildings. The whole world disintegrates around you. Blast into a full gasoline tanker truck and watch it go up in a huge fireball.

The rewind feature builds up over time and lets you "backtrack" after a wrong turn or a head-on collision. It's great fun and helps you extend your time, undoing a mistake.

There are multiplayer modes too, where you can play with people either locally on your system or online with XBox Live.

Yes, other racing games might have more "perfect" car models and racing response, but that's not really what Full Auto is about. Full Auto is a casual, smash-em-up game that lets you play for a few minutes then go on with something else. It does perfectly with that, and is highly recommended!

Need for Speed Most Wanted Review

This game is the sequel to NFS Underground 2, and here is the first game from the Need for Speed series with police since Hot Pursuit 2. In this, you enter the city of Rockport and begin to challenge the Blacklist 15, the 15 most wanted street racers. Number 15, Razor, sabotages your car, so after you get out of jail, you must return to the Blacklist and fight your way up to challenge Razor again, except now he's at the top. Each time you beat a racer, you may choose 2 of 6 cards, which can include parts upgrades, get out of jail free cards, or possibly your opponent's pink slip for his/her car.

Compared to past games in the NFS series, there is a great deal of emphasis on the police pursuits rather than the racing. There are 6 levels, but level 6 is rarely seen. So most of the time you'll be no higher than level 5, which is enough, believe me.

As for the difficulty of the races and challenges, that can vary depending on challenge and circumstances. Obviously everything will be easy at the start, but there can be times where your opponents, ( be they racers or cops) act rather stupidly. One note is that I've tried the Black Edition of this game and the normal one, and would like to point out one thing. In the Black Edition, you are allowed to own 25 cars in career mode but are allowed only 3 under the "my cars" section for use in single race. In the standard edition, you can only own 21 cars in career mode at least 13 in "my cars."

Finally, the graphics are very good, with excellent reflections and all the workings of the city. In my own opinion, as I have tried Carbon (the sequel to Most Wanted) on the standard Xbox (not the 360), I have found this to be preferable to Carbon.

Tom Clancy's HAWX Review

I got this game a few weeks after it came out. After seeing many of the reviews, I wasn't sure whether or not it was going to be a good game or not, but when I booted up my Xbox 360 and put it in the tray... I was happy with the game. The graphics is just awesome, but some details could be worked on like the different variations of the aircraft and the transitions from cinematic to actual controls so the aircraft wouldn't look jerky while turning. I like the effects of breaking the sound barrier, which gives you the sensation of speed (which Ace Combat 6 didn't have). I just didn't like the fact that your plane cannot go under 500knots when your ASSISTANCE is turned on since you cannot stall unless if you turn Assistance off. I don't like the camera view for Assistance off due to the fact you cannot know the altitude of your aircraft and you crash a lot while you are trying to get the best angle of attack. I absolutely hate the escort missions because they are just plain annoying since your wingmen aren't as reliable as the one in Ace Combat 6. Realism is one of the thing that isn't part of this game, so if you are looking for a game with realism in it, then go and buy a gaming PC instead to play one of those air simulators. Playing these kinds of arcade games are just fun. The light textures are just wonderful!!! I just wish that they had more paint jobs (just like the ones of Ace Combat 6 but more) for the aircraft. I would also like the fact that you can actually look down at the instruments while in the cockpit because what is the use of being in a game where you fly advanced aircraft and were not able to look at the advanced instruments? Overall I think this game is almost as good as Ace Combat 6 but Ace Combat 6 is still better. The story line of this game actually makes sense compared to Ace Combat's story. I think HAWX makes things a little too easy with the ERS. The Assistance mode off is fun if you have an agile aircraft where you can do many kinds of tricks. There could've been a nice place where you could refit your aircraft in the missions though.

MX vs ATV Reflex Review

MX vs ATV Reflex is a game I was looking forward to for a while. The reflex stick requires a learning curve but makes the game great after getting used to it. It allows you to develop your own riding style by scrubbing and whipping. I would suggest to use as little of the reflex stick as possible and just slowly use it more and more as you get more familiar. I tried scrubbing and whipping everything on the track so it took me a while to get the hang of it but on a brighter note, the dodgy pre-load function is finally gone from the previous games.

The trucks/buggies do nothing but take up space on the disc and I haven't figured out why they are still putting them on these games. For the next game, they need to listen to the people that are the most loyal to the MX/ATV series of games and cut all of the waypoint stuff and focus more on supercross and nationals.

Online play is sketchy. The best way to do it is play with your buddies or jump in and out of the desired room until one picks up. The format online is pretty bad but it is fun once you get into a decent group.

The career format lacks series'. They need a supercross and national series rather than giving a trophy for an exhibition race. Also, the AI is annoying since it seems the bikes are apparently made of really bouncy rubber as you bounce around and wreck everytime someone gets near you.

Other than a few shortcomings, this game is my favorite MX game since Supercross Ciruit for PS1. I had to give it 5 stars just for the significant improvments they have made. They have came a long way with this one and it's definitly worth the price if you have the patience to get past the learning curve.

Build around dual stick controls, the Rider Reflex control scheme built into MX vs. ATV: Reflex is designed to revolutionize the way you race in several different ways. The first of these is by improving precision turning when you need it. With the left stick controlling the bike and the the right the direction that the rider leans, tighter and faster turns are possible by jerking the two stick in the same direction, carving the player to a stop or changing direction in a instant, just as you would on a real bike. Similarly this ability to use the rider's weight, also impacts more subtle abilities to control a bike, both on the ground and in the air as the rider uses his weight to slow, or speed up his momentum at crucial times and change the angle of his bike to correct a bad takeoff But Rider Reflex is not just about steering. It also has a major role to play while while you are in the air, allowing players to pull off tricks like never before. There are several tricks and freestyle variations possible, all of which will take some time to discover and master, but the basic trick performance mechanism is simple. To pull off a trick just hold down the left bumper and indicate direction on the right stick. Players can hold the stick in the final position to hold the trick longer. Dirt Review

This is the first rally game I've played since VRally 99' for N64. But I was staring this title down at Circuit City and decided to buy it. I did not realize until I got home and looked up the reviews (yes, after already buying it, lol) that it was a member of the Colin McRae family of Rally games. Well anyway, it's a GREAT game, and a lot of fun to play. Here's my pros and cons, take them for what they're worth:

Pros:

-The graphics are great, everything looks realistic, and the cars look fantastic

-Career mode is cool, forces you to use every vehicle in the game, and most of which are a lot of fun, I enjoyed most the Subaru Impreza (naturally).

Cons: These are minor and easily overlooked, but I would like to see them in the next game:

-I'm almost finished with my career mode, and much to my surprise, not a single NIGHT rally. What gives? This rally game should include some night rallys where my only guiding light comes from my headlights, honestly, that'd be awesome

-No snow rallys?! Again what gives, there's rally's with "snowy" enviroments, but none where you're actually driving on the snow and constantly drifting. At least 2 or 3 would have been nice.

-Floaty feeling cars. Like others have said, the cars feel a bit "floaty" but it doesn't detract from the fun of the game... it's challenging, and exciting.

The game is great. But the lack of night and snow rallys upset me. VRally 99 for N64 had both of these and they were great. Why can't this game have them.

Need for Speed: Shift Review

This is by far, one of the best games that I have ever experienced. The game has unbelievable graphics and the cockpit camera view makes it even more fun. I bought this game with the Microsoft Racing Wheel which I highly recommend because it really makes you feel like you are behind the wheel.

So, as you can see there are very nice cars in the game. And, like it's not good enough, the game allows you to customize the cars in hundreds of different ways. I recommend it completely.

Story
In Blur the storyline plays out in the single player campaign. Here players assume the role of an up-and-coming racer who is looking to make a name for himself in the underground racing scene, but the competition is fierce. As you take on the series of races, you'll meet a bunch of recurring characters. Some of these characters will be rivals, others perhaps will act as mentors, and some may be something else entirely. The only thing that is certain in the world of Blur is that in a race there are winners and losers, and racers will do anything to reach the finish line first.

Gameplay
Although filled with the beautifully elaborate racing environments, realistic damage effects and a long list of available cars usually only found in simulation racers, Blur is an arcade racer through and through. Its single player campaign revolves around the game's Career Mode, while in multiplayer there are additional options, including customizable cooperative and competitive races. In both of these though the second-to-second, fast-paced action is rooted in the wealth of powerups strewn throughout the track. These are addictive in their use and dramatic and devastating when used against opposing racers. With each successive race that players engage in they will use their collection of powerups to engage in vehicular combat of all sorts as they make their way to the finish. The game employs a fictional in-game social networking system allowing communication between drivers, and through this a way for players to establish alliances, find mentors and get familiar with the tactics of opponents. Monetary rewards are accumulated by drivers not only for success in competition, but by generous fans earned during races and for predetermined side challenges within races, proposed by those same fans. With the cash accumulated through all these, players can buy new cars and upgrade their ability to use powerups and keep their career going.

Powerups
An impressive array of powerups are part and parcel to the vehicular combat that takes place Blur. These are spread across each of the game's tracks and for the most part can be used at any time. Drivers start out with the ability to sock away up to two of these, but with success players can upgrade to add additional slots and even increase the potency of the powerups that they have. Powerups in the game include:

Shock - An electromagnetic pulse that homes in on the nearest car or packs of cars, surrounding you.
Barge - An energy wave weapon designed to be unleashed at close range to hurl enemy drivers off course.
Shunt - A forward firing projectile that can be used to bring you closer to competitors or blast them out of the way.
Nitro - A short, powerful speed boost designed to get the driver back in contention when he/she falls behind.
Mines - Explosive devices dropped out on to the track that blow apart any car that runs them over.
Repair - A way to regain health without making a pit stop at a repair shop. Unlike other powerups, these are used instantly instead of being stored for later use.

Multiplayer Support and Game Modes
Blur is designed from the ground up to provide an enthralling multiplayer experience both online and offline. Online players with enjoy support for up to 20 player races, while local offline play features 2-4 player, four-way split screen support through a single console and up to 20 player support via system link console configurations. Within races players will have the choice to play either competitively and cooperative, in a variety of play modes that offer a mix of customization and automation. Just a few of the race parameters that can be customized are locale, car class and number of racers. Players can also choose to let the game handle the specifics of race particulars with World Tour mode, which will string together race after race randomly, allowing friends to simply concentrate on the fun.

The gameworld of Blur contains an impressive array of tracks and cars. First off, let me just say that this game is in no way related to THQ/Climax's version from the previous year. So, if you're expecting to powerslide around every corner and hate using brakes, turn around right now. Now it's Capcom/Milestone's turn. (for the next 4-5 years, apparently) The latter of whom actually aren't new to 2 wheels just to next-gen consoles and MotoGP games, but date all the way back to EA's SBK 2000.

The first thing you'll do when you first pop in the game is the tutorial, (that can be skipped) which simply puts you in a quick race while giving you advice for every thing you're doing wrong and, ultimately, recommends one of three handling models - arcade, advanced, sim. 'Arcade' is designed for people who have never touched a bike game or don't know the difference between MotoGP and Motocross. The only time you'll fall is when you slam into another rider or wall at a reasonably high speed and you can brake very late into corners. In 'sim' expect to fall a lot. Braking and turning at the same time will reduce your cornering ability or cause you to loose your front end. Heavy throttle on corner exit will cause your front end to lift maybe adding in a wobble or the rear will slip out and, eventually, you could drop your bike. 'Advanced' is a nice compromise between the two. Overall the handling feels much more realistic than the previous versions, Braking skills and careful throttle control are required to be competitive. It should be noted also that most modes allow you to change opponent difficulty separately if you still have trouble with the handling model.

Game modes include, quick race, custom championship, time trial, challenge, online, and career which is where the meat of the game occurs. You start off as a rookie in 125cc and can only join the lower tier of teams. Through the course of five seasons, you'll earn bike upgrades and points as you race which allow you to change to a better team or move up through the ranks all the way to the GP class. Online allows up to 12 others to compete and has only minor lag issues, though has little in the way of features. You can't change bike setups, only features single races - no points tallying championship, lap times can only be set here - nowhere in single player, and apparently PS3 has no voice chat.

Graphics, for the most part, are good, nothing mind-blowing, but get the job done. The tracks themselves are lacking in atmosphere and animation (no wavy flags, cardboard people, etc.) and objects in the distance are simply a wall of textured trees or hills rather than being an actual model. However, the rider/bikes look great and animate nicely, (feet shift gears, fingers reach for clutch or front brake) which is what you'll mainly notice anyway. Thanks to this, replays look fantastic. Frame rate is solid even with 35 other riders around in 125's. Bike sounds are decent though a bit muted. They sound like what you might hear in the on-board shots in televised races but lower, so if you like to use 3rd-person cameras or watch replays you may be disappointed in this regard.

Overall, despite it's shortcomings and lack of polish, I still highly recommend this game especially if you're a fan of the sport or bikes in general. (It's not like you have a lot to choose from anyway) Once you get over the initial shock of transition from last years version and less than stellar online portion what you'll find is an enjoyable single player game that's a little bit closer to the real thing.

*points of note I forgot to mention that may break the game for some*

-Throttle/front brake not mappable to right stick on Xbox360, but is possible on PC and possibly PS3.
-Only rumbles when you drive off track, not under accelerating/braking, which makes the awesome on-board view much harder to manage if you're trying to push the limits of the bike.
-Regarding leaderboards, fastest times are only uploaded in ranked matches which only allow a single race before returning to the lobby, thus is played by nobody.
-AI is pretty good against itself, but tends to ignore you and your racing line.
-(really nitpicking here but the point has been raised by others) it's impossible to lock rear wheels even in sim, has semi-auto rider movement where the rider automatically sits up or tucks but can be overridden by the player, overly sensitive throttle modulation where the rear end may sometimes slide abruptly even if you think you're applying a constant, and even acceleration.
-PS3 has now received a patch for voice chat but only in lobbies, not in-race.

This is an interesting game. I find it to be one of the better 360 games I own partly because it's different. The idea behind the game is an excellent one and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Going through the levels and pulling off some of these stunts became more and more enjoyable and I found myself totally immersed in the game. Admitingly, it can get a bit monatanous if you are really struggling with a particular stunt but not any worse than any shooter I've ever played. I give it high marks for its graphics, sound, storyline, and unique game experience.

1. Use the 360 racing wheel for all your racing/driving games. Buy and use the Wheel with the gas and brake pedals.
2. The Autoreverse is defective in this game, so manually shift to reverse when needed (even with automatic transmission selected).
3. Use automatic transmission so when you need to manually in reverse you will always be in first gear and just need to click 2 times on the paddle to get to reverse and click two times to geat back to first gear.
4. The autoreverse works only when you are flush against a solid object and can't move an inch to the right or left. If doesn't seem to matter if you have autoreverse enabled or disabled, it seems to work the same way.
5. You can disable the replay feature it desired.
6. When racing thru traffic, drive in the first person (hood or bumper view). It' much easier to race through traffic with a lot less damage than the 3rd-person view. The trailing views aren't nealy as fun either.
7. When you need to smash the targeted car and then pull up beside it or to give it 100% damage, it's advantageous to switch to the 3rd person (trailing view) but not essential.
8. Switch the view points using the up on the directional pad.
9. This game is really challanging and hard even on "easy". Just like Turok there is nothing easy when you play it on "easy". This is much more fun than shooters. You get to drive thru the city, dirt roads, and the Autobaun at 100 to 160mph completing all the challenges and missions.
10. I don't think any sane person can beat the game Hard without spending 1,000,000 hours of game play. So don't even try. Go into the options menu and change it to "easy". On hard the damage to your car is a 10% limit. On Normal it's 20%. On "Easy" its 30%. The damage quota isn't there for some of the missions.
11. You can change the KPH to MPH in the options menu.
12. Again use the 360 racing wheel and manually shift to reverse when needed or you might be really frustated and throw the game in the trash. at first, I thought this was a great, fun and challenging game, but since the autoreverse was defective I thought they screwed up what could have been a great game which was disappointing. Then I got smart, I just manually shifted to reverse when needed and then back to first gear (even on automatic transmission), then the game is great.
13. After the first case is beaten, 5 race tracks and 5 vehicles will be unlocked. With each case you beat you will unlock more and more. The racing events are fun. You get to do point to point races and circuit races using all kinds of different vehicles and tracks thru the Autobaun, city and country roads.
14. You can play the game with the cases, and you can do the racing events (after the first case is beaten).

Each case has many missions to it, about 5 or 6 average.
Each and every mission has a new challenges with new variables as you go thru the game. There is a new and different challenge to be done. You'll have different vehicle and even a tank. A few of challenges are the same or similar to previous ones, but each is unique with unique variable, e.g, traffic for one. You are traveling thru the Autobaun and country roads and city streets with a new and unique challenge with each case and mission.
Once you get passed the first case, the challenges become more unique and fun. Just when you thought you've experienced it all there's a new more challenging mission.

This is totally unique from any other driving game. This makes a great addition to all the other racing/driving games that I own, e.g., Dirt 2, Grid, Need For Speed: Pro Street/Undercover/Shift, Flatout Ultimate Carnage, Burnout Paradise.
This is a keeper. This is uniquely challenging and fun and frustrating at times.

There are a few downfalls though. There are only like 10 cars, so you will be racing 300 cars that are the same cars throughout. Also the graphics dont appear to be 360 graphics except for your which you can modify a decent amount. One really good upgrade besides the addition of a few minor highways, is th parking area. The PA is where you will find racers parked and ready to race. Just as the last TXR games, there are many wanderers and still is a pain in the a$$ to figure out there requirements. I suggest trying to find a strategy guide if you plan on racing the Datsun that appears after all racers are beat.

If your a TXR fan and looking for a cheap and fun game then I recommend this game. Its pretty fun racing your way to the top of tokyos highways.

Arguements can certainly be made as to whether or not Carbon (2006) is less "thrilling" than Most Wanted (2005). You could also argue that the shorter story line and all night time driving leaves Carbon at a disadvantage when compared with Most Wanted. BUT, one thing that simply cannot be argued is that Carbon is superior to Most Wanted in customizations. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's the best racing title yet, even here two years and some odd months later. The possiblities of making yourself a unique ride are endless thanks to autosculpt, a system which allows you to modify parts to your exact specs.

To give you an example, one of the first cars you'll unlock is a mustang gt (bottom tier). Once you have enough cash and unlocks, you can literally take this thing into the garage and customize it for top tier races, and win! The custom paint graph allows you to get just the right shade of pinks, yellows, purples, whatever; And the chrome wheel selection is expansive both in style and sizes (17-21 inches).

When I started playing racing games, I was strictly an Arcade guy. Give me a Burnout or Midnight Club any day and I was happy. But Carbon completely changed my racing habits, and now customization is the first and foremost thing I check for when picking a title.

Unfortunatly, nothing EA, or anyone else for that matter, has done since is quite as good, although Undercover comes pretty close.

EDIT: I've yet to play Midnight Club LA, but if it's more expansive in the customizations than Carbon, I'd be surprised.

I actually had quite a lot of fun playing Ridge Racer 6. Just zooming around the tracks without a care in the world while some guy gave me words of amazement at my driving skills or criticizing me if I had a bad run. Letting nitros loose was a lot of fun while swerving around corners. There's a ton of stuff to unlock and it's all worthwhile. This game is easily recommendable for those who want a little relaxation after playing a lot of hardcore games. Just to zip around the tracks and not care if I did good or not so I could just relax.

I don't write reviews often but I just wanted to take a moment and submit a comment for this game cuz it is such a blast! It's the kind of game that makes you want to spend every spare second you have playing just to refine your skills to get better. First off let me just say 07 is my first moto gp game. I've never played 06 or any others so I can't make comparisons. The last motorcycle racing game I have played was Suzuki superbikes 2 from 2006 PS2 and had alot of fun with it but let me tell you there's a huge difference. This game is so much better in almost every aspect. I mean not everything is perfect in this game like the soundtrack isn't great but you can turn it off so it's not really an issue. The sound FX's however are phenomenal and truly lifelike. The sounds of other bikes off in the distance as your racing is awesome. Several times I actually thought the sound was coming from outside and someone was racing their own bike down the street. Thing is I don't even have surround sound. The graphics are really something special as well here. The attention to detail is awesome. for instance the rain on the camera lens feels like there's real rain on the faceplate of your helmet as your flying down the track, The shine off the pavement is amazing and so realistic. Some of the best graphics I've seen in ANY game. Oh and the best part is the speed of the bikes and the tilt of the camera how they actually make you feel like you really are speeding down the track on your own bike swerving side to side through the chicanes and turns and then racing down the straightway at 195 miles an hour. It's just a freakin awesome feeling!!! I mean you could spend hours just on the practice tracks just having fun perfecting your skills! The rookie season was pretty easy to get through but now I'm just starting my career on Pro and its getting pretty challenging. I can tell the next two difficulty levels won't be an easy task. There are also challenges in the game which are pretty difficult but help to perfect your riding skills. If your into motorcycles or racing games I definitely recommend this game. I can't understand all the crappy reviews from the magazines. If you check out any reviews from actual players it's 9's and 10's. Anyways thanks for a great game THQ looking forward to the next release although I don't see much to improve on here. Just a suggestion though how about some old school punk for the soundtrack next time round?

All the Ace Combat games are similar in play and this one is not much different. What is different, for those of you with big screen TV's, are the graphics for this version. Having played the PS2 Ace Combat, this one blows them away in every aspect. Playing with the the controller is limiting and only so much fun. For those seeking "true" flight simulation, you NEED to pick up this bundle with the joysticks. They joystick and throttle add an entirely new level of playing that is far greater than just flicking your thumb on the controller.

The flightstick will obviously take some time getting used to. With all the switches and buttons on it, you'll need to play it for awhile before you can manipulate the controls without having to look. Once you get there though, the game is awesome.

The only downside is that you might have to be a little careful with the flightstick since it's made of plastic and seems a little dainty. The PC version of this flightstick is metal so I know that's quite durable but this one seems a little iffy. Fortunately, I've had this thing for about 7-8 months and no issues with the flightstick at all.

Yeah this is a little pricey considering you could just as easily go out and buy the game for only $[...] BUT, if you're a true flight sim fan, this is a definite must have.

Race Pro Review

First of all, this game is fun. I read a review elsewhere that claimed the graphics weren't very good; I completely disagree - I think they're brilliant on XBox 360.

The sim isn't as realistic as I expected. Now, I need to qualify all of this: I'm no Michael Schumacher and I know it! I'm not much of a racer, sim or otherwise. That said, I have a fair amount of sim experience (VirtualGT, GP Legends, GT Legends, et cetera, going back 10 years or so). So, I'm NO braggart! I'm just being honest.

Even on professional mode, it's not very difficult. I expected the level of the PC Legends games - Grand Prix Legends and GT Legends, et cetera. It's a great sim for an arcade game, but it's a lower level "sim" game. I understand the need to reach the masses and work on controllers, but with the wheel and pedal setup in professional mode, this game isn't realistically difficult. The handling of the cars is about 6/10ths or so, they seem to try to make it more realistic by bouncing you around or something.

Anyway, my real gripe is that in order to drive all of the cars, you have to unlock them in the most tedious way ever - going through boring races. It's annoying! You blow through these races, but it takes forever and it's boring. I wish Atari and SimBin had made a choice to either go hardcore or go arcade. The fact that they went 'tweener is a real bummer. Had they gone hardcore, with tough races for 10-15 laps races (30-100 lap races as you get more difficult), it might be okay. But instead you just have to sort of droll through it all to get to the good cars.

The tracks are awesome! The graphics are great! The simulation is okay, but the unlocking cars is irritating.

Anyway, it really is a fun game, but not quite what I expected. I hope that helps!

I agree with the sentiment of other reviews I've seen, it's a good game but it's a bit outdated (graphics, physics, etc). When you have racing standards like Forza 2 or Gran Tourismo it's hard to pop this game in and be impressed. Heck even Tourist Trophy for the PS2 looked better and it's over 3yrs old.

The funny thing is...MotoGP08 (which I also had high hopes for and did NOT like) was developed by the same folks as SBK 08. How they can be so wildly different in game play quality is beyond me.

So the question I had before I bought it was "how's the gameplay?" The answer is contained in my title "Better than expected, not as good as it should be." The difference in difficulty levels is not linear and covers a LOT of ground. Just going from Basic to Arcade is a pretty big jump. "Realistic" is completely misnamed. Unless you think that lowsiding/highsiding should be possible at any angle other than straight up and down with anything over 15% throttle is "realistic", then this is the setting for you. I do like the fact that you can get it to be very hard to control but I wouldn't call it simulation. I've done a custom setting to add in Traction Control, I can still crash myself if I get crazy with the throttle but not just by breathing on the throttle. I think once you find your own handling "sweet spot" you'll enjoy this game immensely. You get all the qualifying and practice sessions as in a real race weekend so if you really wanted to simulate a race, you could take days....

The AI isn't great but on the 2nd hardest difficulty level the riders are turning lap times within +/- .2 seconds of real lap times.

My guess would be that while other genres of racing games generate a lot of money, motorcycle racing games are just not that popular/profitable in the US. To me that's very sad because after being a M/C road racing fan for over 20yrs you are seeing some of the best racing, the most amazing machines ever (MotoGP, bring back the 990's!). So with that this game is better than I expected but not as good as it could be, especially when you see other games out there LIGHT YEARS ahead in graphics, gameplay depth and physics/feel.

Here's hoping the next version is more that just "new bikes/rider/tracks" with the same level of graphics and physics....but I still can't wait to be Ben Spies on the R1 at Portimao!

Wheelman Review

This is a fun game which leaves you wanting more. The ability to jump from a moving vehicle to another moving vehicle is a nice twist.

The game is a standard mission oriented game but you have have to outrun enemies, police, etc. all entwined with slo-mo and great special effects of your ability(like in the matrix movie). You can ram into cars and cause damage to them, cause crashes and spin outs.

There is limited shooting but the game is more a test of your driving skills and strategy using the profiles given of the enemies.

A Game That Plays Like a Movie
Video games based on movies are not rare, but what is rare is a video game developed to look and play like a movie, and that is exactly what Wheelman is. This game is great fun. The graphics are good. One of the things I like about this game so far is that you unlock some upgrade or new part for your ATV almost every race. It's really easy to build your own ATV, even if you don't know much aobut all the details that go into it.It's not like one of those game where you have to play for a million hours til you find the unlockables. There's not quite as much variety as I'd like with the tricks, but still fun to pull them off & figure out which jumps are best for which tricks. The music kind of blends into the background.

I first have to start off by addressing those that have complained about the controls and handling on this game. These gamers obviously have no clue what happens to a truck, suv, or 4x4's on the rough off road terrain. The creators did an excellent job on taking real life events, and tranferring it to the next-gen video games. The handling and controls represent also exactly what would happen to a truck racing at those speeds over uneven terrain. So honestly, it you really aren't into four wheeling, or off roading, then you wont appreciate this game at all... That's like me purchasing a WWE video game when I'm not into wrestling at all, and then post a bad review on the moves!

Any dirt riding junkie will apprecite this game for what it is, the graphics aren't the best that we've seen on a racing game, but you can't put the bar too high for THQ. However, that isn't stating that the graphics are bad neither, I am very statisfied with the games presentation and physics. They have a wide range of trucks, and 4x4's to choose from, and they did a wonderful job in creating the enviroments.

Being that the game is a hard item to pick up used at any gamestop, I definitely recommend buying this new, it's something you wont regret, but only if you truly understand off roading. Those that complain about the controls and handling, and wine about how hard it is to finish a race or stay on the road. Stick to the pavement stable boys! Leave the hard tarrain of dirt, mud, hills, and jumps to those that know what to do with it.

Burnout Revenge Review

If you want to let off some steam with some OFFENSIVE driving, this is a great game. But I'm posting this mostly to warn you that it looks like this title no longer supports online play. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but for the last several months I've been getting nothing but the "could not connect to EA servers, try again later" message.

Single-player is *still* a lot of fun, and I still like this game more than Burnout Paradise. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I *like* the ability to "check" traffic without crashing in a race. In Burnout Paradise, you can "check" another racer, but if you brush up against any other traffic, you crash. Feh.

Also, "crash" mode is beeg silly fun. You get a preview of an optimal route to leave the biggest traffic pileup in your wake, and then you get a chance to try to make it happen. And if you're at least moderately successful, you will be rewarded with the ability to trigger an explosion of your car and use "aftertouch" to steer your airborn wreckage into the path of even more oncoming traffic, all while being cheered on by an unseen crowd: "We want more! We want more!"

Okay, so it's not the most *realistic* racing simulation game. But I don't want a realistic racing simulation. I don't want to crash and then be in the hospital for 3 months. No, I want to CAUSE crashes, and then be rewarded for it.

This is a big fun game. Even if EA has killed off the multiplayer part of it. But, you know, just factor that in to your buying decision, with this game or ANY game: the availability of online multiplayer functionality is not necessarily FOREVER... or even four years.

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (Platinum Hits) Review

I bought this game along with my Xbox 360 (which got RROD). The graphics are just amazing! The story line however, isn't. The audio for this game is quite good although there are many annoying lines in the voice acting. I can't understand Japanese so I have to listen to the English version. The English version is still quite good though. The gameplay is also very nice but I would've liked a greater amount of choice between the aircraft and their paint schemes. The missions could also be a lot more interesting if they didn't repeat themselves with the protecting missions (escort missions). I've also played H.A.W.X. too and I must admit that this game is still better due to the graphics. The planes just look good. The graphics is nice but wwhen you get close to the ground, it won't look as pretty than up their in the skies. I still think that games with modern aircraft in them should have VTOL aircrafts available because people like me would want to see how nice it is to hover in a F-35 or AV-8 Harrier. There could have been a better introduction to the story too. Overall it is a great game but I only gave it an overall 4 star rating (I would choose 4 1/2 star if I could because it is very good) because of the crappy story line.
